Argentine president calls meeting on energy shortage

Recycling

Argentina's President Nestor Kirchner summoned leaders of the nation's energy companies for talks over energy shortage, a government spokesmen informed.

Officials said although energy shortages are being felt, there was no crisis. Last week, a cold snap hit Argentina, forcing the country to suspend natural gas exports to Chile and also halted supplies of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

Taxi drivers and truckers have staged demonstrations against energy shortages and refueling queues that can last up to four hours. Kirchner said on Wednesday that services would be normalized on Thursday but things got worse. Buenos Aires, Cordoba, Rosario and Mendoza are the only cities with working LNG stations, and only 300 such stations are now operating across the country. (petrolplaza.com)
