Albania expects €1 bln power deal with EVN

Prime Minister Sali Berisha said on Thursday that he expected Albania to conclude €1 billion ($1.39 billion) deal in the coming weeks with Austrian utility EVN to build hydroelectric power stations.

In an interview with Reuters, Berisha cited the deal as an example of growing foreign investment and one of the largest in the Balkan country’s history.

EVN won a tender to build hydroelectric power stations in January, and officials at the time said the investment would require €900 million. Berisha gave a round figure for the deal of one billion euros for four plants. “There are negotiations now on hydropower plants, contracts which go up to, a single one (contract), one billion euros,” Berisha said in his office in Tirana. “They will be soon finalized, but negotiations are tough.” (Reuters)
