U.S. to adopt limitations on Hungary’s visa-free travel
Under a law approved by the government of the United States of America, the visa-free travel of Hungarian citizens to the United States could be limited if they have been in Syria, Iraq, Iran or Sudan in the past five years, Hungarian online daily hvg.hu reported yesterday.
In such cases, Hungarians will have to apply for a visa before traveling to the United States. The legislation also requires favored countries to share all information on “terror suspected” persona, while those countries that do not cooperate with the United States “appropriately” in fighting international terrorism may be excluded from the visa-free list, hvg.hu reported.
The legislation applies to all the 38 countries who are favored in the U.S. visa-free program. According to hvg.hu, chances of the Senate approving the legislation and President Barack Obama signing off on it are high, following the Paris terror attacks and the mass shooting in San Bernandino.
The online daily said that due to the visa-free program, which began in 1986, 20 million people visit the United States annually and are allowed to remain in the country for 90 days.
