Romania, Iceland to cooperate for clean energy

Initiatives

Romania and Iceland declared Wednesday that they aimed to cooperate in the field of cleaner energy resources, while the two countries also signed a double-taxation agreement.

Romanian President Traian Basescu and his Iceland counterpart, Ragnar Grimson, discussed energy issues. Basescu said Bucharest was considering the acquisition of Iceland’s technology for producing energy from environmentally-friendly sources.

According to the Mediafax agency, Basescu noted that Iceland had experience above all in the exploitation of thermal energy, whereas in Romania, thermal water merely ended up flowing into the sewerage network. On the periphery of the talks, the two countries also signed an agreement to avoid double-taxation. (m&c.com)
