Major players of the Hungarian pharmaceutical scene are to hold discussions on government measures that have reportedly sent their businesses plummeting.

Key players of the pharmaceutical industry have been trying to arrange a discussion with the ministries concerned on the implementation of the medicine efficiency law. Today the ministers of the financial, economic and healthcare department are to take part in the discussion. Several leaders of pharmaceutical companies expressed concerns about the processes caused by the new law. György Leitner of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) said the restrictive measures resulted in an 11% percent drop in turnover causing them to lay off 40 people and curb investments. He called the four annual price corrections as against innovation. The mostly foreign owned pharmaceutical firms may be forced to decrease their investments as profit forecasts are getting grim.
