National Motorway disqualifies four bidders
A review board has backed a decision by National Motorway Rt (NA) to disqualify four of six bidders in a tender to build a section of the M7 motorway.
The board even disqualified a fifth bidder, leaving only the originally announced winner of the tender, a consortium of Austrian and Hungarian companies including Porr, Viadom, Terrag and Asdag, business daily Világgazdaság reported on Thursday.
The winning consortium bid Ft 43.7 billion to build the 36.5-kilometer stretch between BalatonkeresztĂşr and Nagykanizsa in west Hungary, well under the guideline price of Ft 70 billion. The official result of the tender is expected to be announced on September 7, and the contract is to be signed 8 days later. The stretch is due to open in May 2008.
Minister of Economy and Transport János Kóka requested NA to hire independent experts review the bids and its decision on the tender early in August. Kóka noted that some suspect participants bid unrealistically low in the tender in order to win more contracts later on.
