Media Council selects RTL Klub, TV2, Class FM and Neo FM as significant market power

Initiatives

Commercial television channels RTL Klub and TV2, and radio channels Class FM and Neo FM are media service providers with significant market power based on their annual average audience, the Media Council of Hungary's media and infocommunications authority (NMHH) decided on Wednesday.

The classification, required by the media act, will entail obligations for the companies in future, including broadcasting a specified amount of news programs and supporting Hungarian film production with a portion of their revenue. Crime-related news may not account for more than 20% of their news programs as an annual average, and they must ensure that certain programs are available with either Hungarian subscription or sign-language interpretation for people with impaired hearing. They also must make at least of a quarter of the non-Hungarian speaking films they broadcast available at the original language too.
