In establishing the committee, the government also aims to “unify procurement criteria” and “support the development of Hungary’s bus industry”, MTI added. The committee will work closely with regional public transport centers and the state-owned regional bus company Volánbusz, making recommendations on all aspects of bus purchases.
The committee will be headed by the Minister for National Economy and comprise the state secretaries for EU-supported development, the budget, public transport policy, and asset management policy. The committee chairman may also ask the Mayor of Budapest to participate, according to the resolution.
The government recently agreed to cover any additional costs arising from contracting replacement bus services along Budapest’s M3 metro line while it undergoes renovation.
