Graduates working abroad should repay for their education, says education secretary

Initiatives

State Secretary for Education Rózsa Hoffmann has proposed that those students who go abroad to work after graduating from university be forced to pay back the costs of their education, reports online news portal Politics.hu.

As a way of enforcing this, new students would have to sign contracts before commencing their higher education studies promising to repay what the state gives them over a five year period.

She added that the intent was not to prevent people from going abroad to find work, but for the government to recoup the costs of training those who leave Hungary as soon as they graduate.

Hoffmann made these comments as part of the year opening ceremony held at Szeged University earlier this week.
