Govʼt mandates Africa trade and diplomacy measures

Hungaryʼs government mandated a number of measures that aim to place Hungaryʼs trade and diplomacy in Africa "on a new footing" in a resolution published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny, state news wire MTI reported Wednesday.

The measures are based on the understanding that migration from Sub-Saharan Africa "can be sufficiently managed by developing countriesʼ economies, creating jobs and ensuring a livelihood locally," MTI cited the resolution as saying.
The resolution mandates a review of Hungaryʼs ties with countries in the region in the interest of strengthening and expanding them, and a survey of Hungarian exporters or investors active in the region with the aim of uncovering and removing administrative or technical obstacles to doing business in Africa.
The foreign minister will report to the government annually on international development projects Hungary may be able to undertake in the region, especially those in the areas of water management, infrastructure development, security, cybersecurity, agriculture, healthcare, and medical technology.
The resolution also instructs the foreign minister to gauge the need for, and scale of, government support for investments by Hungarian companies in the region.
The government is weighing the possibility of opening a diplomatic trade mission in Côte dʼIvoire, as well as preparing an agreement on establishing an intergovernmental cooperation committee with South Africa.
