China ‘has started buying’ Hungarian bonds, says minister

Initiatives

China has already started buying forint-denominated Hungarian government bonds, National Development Minister Tamás Fellegi told journalists in London on Monday.

Speaking before a conference on investments that leave a small carbon footprint, Fellegi called the Chinese subscription of the bonds a "very important result for us".

Fellegi said he had met with the governor of China's central bank at an IMF meeting in Washington in September and would continue talks during an official visit to China. The financing of infrastructure investments is also on the agenda for the talks in November, he added.

Hungarian and Chinese experts have put together a list of potential investments in which Chinese companies could participate, Fellegi said. China's development bank would be a partner in the program, thus the head of the Hungarian Development Bank (MFB) will be part of the delegation that visits China in November, he added.
