Bokros says education and health care reforms are not enough

Initiatives

Bokros, who pushed through a painful package of austerity measures when he was finance minister in the 90’s, said university lecturers should be divested of their status as civil servants in addition to the introduction of the tuition fees. As for the health care system, "freeloaders" who fail to pay their national health insurance contributions should be denied all but emergency care if real reforms are to be carried out, Bokros said. Speaking about the pension system, Bokros said the retirement age should be raised to 65, and the condition of people on disability should be reviewed annually in order to prevent abuse. (Mti-Eco)
