AiRUnion to bid again for Malév

Initiatives

Russian airline alliance AiRUnion on Friday announced its intention to bid again for state-owned Hungarian airline Malév Zrt.

”On any condition, we will take part in the tender,” Olga Trapeznyikova, the spokesman for KrasAir, which heads the alliance, told MTI's Moscow correspondent.
As reported earlier, the board of the State Privatization and Holding (ÁPV) Zrt decided at a meeting on Thursday to call a new tender for Malév. ÁPV scrapped the last tender for Malév in August 2005 without declaring a winner because of “business, professional and employment considerations.” Industry insiders speculated the sale was called off after it became clear that AiRUnion was the front runner, bidding through its Hungarian unit AirBridge Zrt. The government repeatedly denied afterward that the sale was scrapped because it could have placed Hungary's national carrier with a Russian-controlled company.
