Public procurement legislation will not apply to Paks expansion

A bill submitted to parliament by the government on Monday clarifies that contracts related to the expansion of the Paks nuclear power plant will not fall under the public procurement law, MTI reported yesterday.

It also specifies special rules for the businesses participating and on publicity of data related to the project. The bill refers to the part of the public procurement law, which lists procurements carried out under international contracts with a non-EU state among exceptions, which do not fall under that law.

Hungary signed an intergovernmental agreement with Russia on the construction of two new blocks at Paks in January 2014. Russia is providing €10 bln in long-term credit for the investment. The new blocks are scheduled to start operation in 2025.
