MVM in talks on upping stake in Mátrai Erőmű power plant
Hungary’s state-owned Hungarian Electricity Works (MVM) is in talks on boosting its stake in power plant Mátrai Erőmű, National Development Minister Zsuzsanna Németh said yesterday. The discussions concern giving MVM a more active role in Mátrai Erőmű beyond status as a minority stakeholder or contracted business partner, according to Németh.
Mátrai Erőmű is the largest coal-fired power plant in Hungary. It supplies 10-13% of Hungary’s electricity, according to its official website.
Germany-based RWE holds 50.9% of Mátrai Erőmű and its compatriot peer EnBW owns 21.7%. MVM currently holds a 25.5% stake.
