Electricity Produced From Renewable Resources Rose 20.7%

The amount of gross electricity produced from renewable sources increased by 20.7% in Hungary in May compared to the same period of the previous year, the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Office (MEKH) said, citing May data from its latest energy statistics report, according to hirado.hu.

According to the summary, domestic gross electricity production was 3,052 gigawatt hours (GWh) in May, 11.5% more than in the same month of 2021.

This is the highest amount produced in May since 2008. Electricity production from nuclear sources increased by 23.1%, while fossil-based electricity production decreased by 10.2% and other sources by 22.3% compared to May of the previous year.

Some 73.3% of the electricity produced from renewable energy sources was provided by solar energy, 17.6% by biomass, and 4% by wind energy.

The total domestic electricity consumption was 3,879 GWh in May, 2.6% more than in the same period of the previous year.
