Dutch consultancy Pondera has been contracted by Saare Wind Energy to support work on the environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the planned 1-GW (gigawatt) Saaremaa offshore wind farm off Estonia.

Pondera said it will advise Saare Wind Energy, of which Van Oord is a shareholder, on the EIA and the research required. It said the project is expected to consist of a maximum of 100 turbines.

In May 2020, the Estonian government decided that Saare Wind Energy could proceed with the application procedure for the environmental permit and the accompanying EIA, Pondera added.

Development work on the project started in 2015.
