Czech power giant CEZ wants to build plant in Vietnam
A subsidiary of the state-run Czech power giant CEZ, Skoda Praha, seeks to build a coal-fired power plant in Vietnam and hopes to tie up the deal during the Vietnamese premier’s upcoming visit to Prague.
The company eyed six 500 MW blocks valued at 90 billion koruna ($4.5 billion) in Tra Vinh province in the Mekong river delta, the daily Hospodarske Noviny reported Tuesday.
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung is scheduled to visit the Czech Republic on Wednesday and Thursday during a week-long trip to Eastern Europe. The most profitable Czech company and a leading Central European power utility, CEZ has been on an expansion spree across the former Eastern bloc.
Earlier reports said that CEZ sought to build power plants in Russia, Macedonia, Slovakia, and Hungary. The company has already sealed a deal to build a power plant in Bosnia and owns power plants or distribution companies in Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania. (thanhniennews.com)
