Alstom completes power plant upgrade in Hungary

French engineering group Alstom completed modernization of Unit 8 at the Dunamenti gas-fired power plant owned by Gaz de France Suez in Hungary, reported Energy Business Review.
The company was in charge of the retrofit and upgrade of the complete steam turbine island and the associated balance of plant at the unit to match the new steam data following the installation of a gas turbine from another vendor.
This project began in 2009 and resulted in an increase of the unit's capacity from 215MW to above 400MW and its efficiency from 36% to 57%, Alstom said.
Located near Budapest, the Dunamenti power plant has a total capacity of 1,736MW, with 6 x 215MW steam turbine units and two other combined-cycle and cogeneration units.
