Ukraine gas stocks highest for this time of year in a decade
Ukraine's gas storage sites held 18 Bcm (billion cubic meters) of natural gas as of March 1, which is 13% higher than a year ago year and the highest level for this time of year over the past decade, local storage operator Uktransgaz said Wednesday, according to S&P Global Platts.
The record figure comes despite the high level of withdrawals seen in February, when freezing temperatures resulted in 2.9 Bcm of gas being extracted from Ukrainian facilities, two and a half times more than in the same month last year, according to Uktransgaz.
