Magyar Cukor launches HUF 1.1bn fermenter project

Sugar refiner Magyar Cukor, a unit of Austria's Agrana, on Monday launched a project to build a HUF 1.1bn fermenter at its base in Kaposvár (W Hungary).

The 16,000 cubic meter fermenter will produce 75,000 cubic meters of biogas a day, said deputy-CEO Laszlo Hajós. Together with the base's existing two fermenters, each with capacity of 13,000 cubic meters, biogas will meet two-thirds of the refinery's energy requirement in the 2012 sugar beet campaign, he added.

European Union funding is covering HUF 540m of the cost of the new fermenter.
