Hungary始s gas reserves at 28% of capacity in run-up to winter

Hungary has about 1.2 bln cubic meters of gas in reserves around the country, well under the 3.1 bln at the same time a year earlier, daily Magyar Nemzet said on Saturday, according to news agency MTI.
The reserves are at about 28% of capacity, when they should around 40%, the paper said, citing data from their state-owned operator. About 70% of the 8 bln-10 bln cubic meters of gas Hungary uses each year is consumed in winter.
Last year, households used 4.2 bln cubic meters of gas, and 2.5 bln cubic meters was released from reserves. Economic research institute Sz谩zadv茅g said yesterday that gas in the reserves, domestic production and imports from the west would be sufficient to meet household demand for gas this winter.
The institute始s experts explained that the reserves are actually at 45% capacity, if stand-by security inventories are taken into consideration. Domestic gas inventories could reach 4.4 bln cubic meters by the end of November, exceeding total winter consumption, they added.
