Hungary, Croatia to join gas pipe network

Energy Trade

Hungary and Croatia aim to connect their gas pipeline systems by 2010 – 2011, officials said.

Thus, Hungary would have an access to the LNG (liquified natural gas) terminal being constructed in Croatia, said Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, after his negotiations with Croatia’s Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in Budapest. This way Hungary could decrease the extent of dependence on Russian natural gas, he added. The project is an inter-company program, with no direct governmental participation, he emphasized. The two countries also started negotiations about the common stockpiling of their strategic oil reserves. Croatia wishes to involve Hungary’s oil and gas company MOL Nyrt in the LNG project, said Sanader. (Gazdasági Rádió)
