Gazprom reportedly seeking energy assets in Italy
Russian gas giant Gazprom is reportedly planning to make acquisitions in Italy in a bid to expand its footprint across Europe, according to Reuters.
Gazprom is keen to buy power generation assets or initiate new projects in Italy, one of Europe’s biggest energy markets, the publication revealed, citing Alexander Medvedev, Gazprom’s deputy CEO. In an interview with Reuters, Medvedev said: “The Italian power market is one of the most interesting in Europe.
Therefore, Gazprom, which can deliver gas to Italy, is considering its participation in power generation projects.” Gazprom is Europe’s largest gas supplier, accounting for almost a quarter of imports. The Russian gas giant is seeking to extend its domination of the market by concentrating on the gas, oil, power and heating markets, Reuters reported. (energy-business-review)
