ČEZ Distribution Bulgaria to invest in grid automation

ČEZ Distribution Bulgaria, the local unit of Czech state-owned energy company ČEZ, said that it will invest some BGN 1.7 million (USD 1.1 million) in the automation of elements of its power network in 2021, according to a report by SeeNews.
The utility will also complete a BGN 900,000 reconstruction of seven units in the western part of Bulgaria this year, it said in a statement.
The automated system elements will provide remote information about damaged areas of the power grid and allow the utility to reduce the number of affected customers, ČEZ Distribution Bulgaria said. So far, ČEZ Distribution Bulgaria has installed over 700 automated elements to its power network in western Bulgaria, it added.
ČEZ Distribution Bulgaria operates the power grid in Sofia region and parts of western and northern Bulgaria.
