EC expected to recommend lifting EDP against Hungary

EU

The European Commission is expected to recommend on May 29 that the excessive deficit procedure (EDP) against Hungary be lifted, Hungarian website BruxInfo said on Friday, without naming its sources. The Commission is expected to recommend lifting EDPs against five other member states at the same time, BruxInfo said. A decision on the recommendation would be taken by a meeting of European Union finance and economy ministers on June 21. Hungary has been under the EDP since 2004, the year it joined the EU. Hungary's current government has taken a number of measures to ensure the EDP against the country is lifted, announcing most recently, early in May, some HUF 266 billion in fiscal adjustments.
