Dry weather means average grain harvest at best

The grain output in Hungary is expected to be weak or at most average this year because of the drought that has afflicted many parts of the country, and there might therefore be less grain to export, Hungarian Grain Association secretary István Tóth told business daily Világgazdaság on Tuesday.

Zsófia Pótsa, secretary general of the association of Hungarian grain processors and feed manufacturers and traders still did not exclude, however, a wheat output of 3.5-4 million tons, which is not exceptionally low.

There are still chances for an average harvest this year, Pótsa told the daily, noting that foreign harvest estimates are not worrying and stocks in inventories are high.

Hungarian farmers harvested 4.1 million tons of wheat last year.
