Crisis meeting on bumper apple crop
Hungarian apple growers held a crisis meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday in order to deal with a bumper crop of apples, Hungarian business daily Napi Gazdaság reported today.
State subsidy proposals and an expansion of the program supplying fruit to schools were discussed at the meeting.
Growers expect the year’s apple crop to reach 800,000 tons, well over the 500,000 ton processing capacity of the country, Apple Products Council head Ferenc Takács announced earlier.
