Contract signed for M0 extension feasibility study

A consortium of Unitef-83, Utiber and Vibracomp have won a contract to draw up a feasibility study for the construction of a stretch of motorway bypassing the capital to the north, daily newspaper Magyar Idők reported on Monday.  

To satisfy requirements for the project, the consortium needs to draft an environmental impact study and acquire the necessary environmental permits, the paper noted.

The new stretch of the M0 ring road would connect Budaörs, to the west of the capital, with route 10, which connects communities in the Pilis Mountains, and route 11, which runs between Budapest and Szentendre, further up the Danube.

The stretch would cut the distance motorists bypassing the capital in the north must travel by 35 kilometers, as well as reducing traffic on the existing, southern stretch of the M0. The cost of the new stretch is expected to be high considering the number of tunnels and bridges which would need to be built through the hilly terrain.
