Brussels could back continuation of cohesion policy

The Visegrad Four countries, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia, have persuaded the European Commission that the European Unionʼs cohesion policy should continue after 2020, state secretary of the Prime Ministerʼs Office Nándor Csepreghy told Hungarian news agency MTI yesterday.
Speaking after a Visegrad Group meeting wound up in Prague on Tuesday, Csepreghy said the EC would represent the interests of net recipients as well as that of net contributors in the debate on whether to continue the cohesion funds after 2020, when they are slated to end.
He noted that EU cohesion policy commissioner Corina Cretu as well as representatives from Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Slovenia participated at the meeting. The Visegrad Groupʼs four neighbors are also interested in the continuation of the cohesion policy, he said.
Calculations show that every single euro in cohesion funding translates as €2-3 in orders for member states that are net contributors.
