A bill submitted to Parliament by Minister for National Economy  Mihály Varga yesterday would classify the details of donations and related tax rebates as tax secrets, Hungarian news agency MTI reported yesterday.

The total amount of donations each taxpayer makes, as well as the total amount each beneficiary receives, could not be classified as tax secrets under the bill; however, the details of each individual donation a taxpayer makes or each individual donation a beneficiary receives would be classified as tax secrets.

Online news portal Index.hu notes that this means that while the total amounts given or received would be known, the source of the donations would not. This detailed data “belongs to the private and business sectors,” according to the bill.
