Bankmonitor: Hungary home loans more expensive than CE’s

Interest rates and monthly repayment installments on home loans are substantially higher in Hungary than in Germany, Austria or Slovakia, Bankmonitor.hu told news agency MTI on Thursday. 

Bankmonitor.hu said that calculated at HUF 298.48 to the euro, the average interest rate on a home loan of HUF 10 million (€33,365) with a maturity of 20 years in Hungary is 6.8% and the average monthly repayment installment is HUF 76,000 (€253), an average of 3% and HUF 15,000-20,000 higher, than in Germany, Austria and Slovakia.

Bankmonitor.hu used the average lowest interest rate on home loans of the stipulated amount and maturity at 11 banks in Hungary to calculate the average for the country.
