Modern technology could double Hungary mushroom output
Hungary could double its mushroom output if growing techniques are modernized, Árpád Mutsy, managing director of Bio-Fungi, told Parliament's Agriculture Committee on Wednesday.
Hungarian farmers grow 24,000-25,000 tons of mushrooms a year, down from about 35,000 a decade ago, Mutsy said. Output accounts for just 2% of the 1.2m mushrooms produced in Europe as a whole each year, he added.
Mutsy put global mushroom output at 6m tons a year.
