Intervention corn freed up - Hungary
The EU has removed its ban on the sale of remaining corn reserves for sale to domestic buyers.
The measure was introduced due to possible shortage of fodder resulting from this year's extreme weather. The Ministry of Agriculture supports the move, and considers that it is in the best interest of Hungarian farmers that the 1.8 million tons of corn reserves are sold to the domestic market. There are currently 600,000 tons of corn that is offered for sale. Applicants for the intervention corn reserves pay €140-150 per ton ($193-207/ton) . (Napi Gazdaság, Magyar Hirlap)
