At the end of July, the Hungarian Grain Growers Association estimated the wheat crop would reach 5.2-5.3 million tons, well over last year's 4 million tons.

The ministry said farmers have brought in the entire autumn barley crop of 842,000 tons and they have harvested 471,000 tons of spring barley. Last year, the barley crop reached 1.04 million tons, figures from the Central Statistics Office (KSH) show.

Farmers have harvested rye from 89% of the area on which it was sown. Based on this, the ministry expects the entire harvest to reach 105,000 tons, up from 77 million tons in 2007.

The ministry projects a triticale harvest of 472,000 tons this year. (MTI-Econews)
