Corn harvest set to rise to 8-9 million tons

Despite heavy rains and the decline in sunflower crops, Hungary's corn harvest is expected to reach 8-9 million tons this year, increasing from last year's 6.7 million tons, the head of the National Grain Growers Association (GOSZ) informed Hungarian news agency MTI today.
József Vancsura said average yield per hectare was about 7 tons, thanks to favorable weather for corn. The farm gate price of corn is around HUF 34,000-35,000 per ton, approximately only half that of last year's prices, he added.
