A one-day record of more than 10,000 unauthorized border crossings were registered in Hungary yesterday, deputy spokesperson of the Hungarian Police said this morning on state-owned all news channel M1.

Some 102 refugees were registered on the Hungarian Serbian border, while 9,939 were registered on the Hungarian Croatian border, the spokesperson said.

The number of asylum seekers has been on the rise in the past weeks, with Hungary seeing thousands of refugees arriving to the country daily. After September 15, when new stricter border laws were passed in Hungary, the influx of refugees was stopped for three days due to the “temporary” wire fence on the Serbian border. But refugees have been bypassing the fence and entering Hungary through Croatia ever since.

Croatia is still transporting refugees to the Hungarian border, chiefly to Beremend, where refugees board Hungarian buses and are transported to registration points or the Austrian border, news reports reveal.

Reports yesterday suggested that Hungary could close the Croatian border as mobile gates and razor wire is being installed at the Letenye border crossing with Croatia.
