Hungaryʼs grape harvest is expected to rise by 19% this year as compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 413,000 tons, János Frittmann, deputy-chairman of vintners association HNT, told Hungarian news agency MTI today.

Frittmann stressed that data are currently only preliminary as the submission for harvest data was December 15, MTI reported.

Grapes were harvested on 58,000 hectares this year, which is slightly more than last year’s 57,000 hectares, he said. Calculating with a 70% juice extraction rate, wine production could be around 2.9 million hectolitres this year – as compared to last year’s 2.55 million hectolitres – MTI said.
