Hungarian farmers harvested more than 8m tonnes of maize in 2011, up more than 1m tonnes from 2010, Rural Development Ministry state secretary Gyorgy Czervan said on Thursday.
Maize was planted on 1,216,000 hectares this year, 138,000 more than last year, Mr Czervan said.
Farmers harvested 1,386,000 tonnes of sunflower seeds this year, up 42% from last year. Sunflowers were sown on 574,000 hectares, 72,000 more than in the previous year.
The potato crop came to 529,000 tonnes. Potatoes were grown on about 20,000 hectares.
Farmers are still harvesting sugar beet from more than 15,000 hectares. The average sugar content of the 715,500 tonnes harvested thus far is 17.7%-18.9%, Mr Czervan said.
