Farmgate prices climb 21% in July

Farmgate prices in Hungary rose 21.3% in July from the same month a year earlier, news agency MTI reports, citing data released by the Central Statistical Office (KSH).

Price rises in the sector have been accelerating for the third month in a row, KSH noted.

Crop prices increased 27.8% on average while prices of live animals and animal products were up 9.1%.

Farmgate prices for grain climbed 31.3% and prices for oilseed crops were 54% higher during the period.

Farmgate prices of live animals rose 7.3% as poultry prices climbed 14% and cattle prices were up 4.7%, but hog prices edged down 0.4%. Milk prices rose 7.3% and egg prices increased 9.5%.

Potato prices were up 22.7%. Prices of vegetables rose 4.6pc and fruit prices increased 8%.
