Weil awarded “Legal Advisor of the Year” in CEE
The Budapest, Prague and Warsaw offices of International law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP has been awarded the title of Central and Eastern Europe’s Legal Advisor of the Year at the fifth annual Financial Times and mergermarket European M&A Awards.
The awards recognize excellence in corporate, private equity, banking and legal M&A expertise. The elite winners are identified by using mergermarket M&A data and expert opinion from an independent panel of leading European M&A practitioners.
Over the past 12 months, Weil has represented blue chip clients such as CEZ, one of the leading companies on the Central and Southeastern European electricity market, and MOL, a leading integrated oil and gas corporation in Central and Eastern Europe and a market leader in their core activities in Hungary, Slovakia and Croatia.
Key transactions included CEZ's €610 million acquisition of a 100% shareholding interest in Energotrans, the formation of a CEZ-MOL joint venture for a gas-fired power and heat generation business in Croatia, Hungary, Slovakia and Slovenia, and the representation of MOL in takeover defenses concerning the high-profile acquisition of a 21.2% stake in MOL by Russian oil company, Surgutneftegas. Budapest-based private equity client the Danube Fund was advised on the acquisition of a Czech and Slovak healthcare insurance business and Kamis S.A. and its shareholders were represented in the sale of 100% of its shares to McCormick & Company, a global leader in flavorings, for approximately €208 million.
