IT company acquires Hungarian ‘big-data’ startup


Global big data analytics company RapidMiner has acquired its former partner, Hungarian software developer Radoop, executing one of the first big-data technological acquisitions internationally, Radoop told Hungarian news agency MTI yesterday.

“Big data” refers to data sets that are too large and complex to manage with standard methods. Following the acquisition, RapidMiner is planning to bring its entire big-data solutions development business to Hungary. Radoop founder Zoltán Prekopcsák will be the head of the division, which will also provide consulting services, the company said. The entire staff of Radoop is to be retained and the division will be run by Hungarian developers.

Radoop is planning to double its present headcount of ten workers in the next one or two years, the company said.The terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Radoop was set up three years ago and has registered capital of HUF 6 mln.
