Andy Vajna wins casinos over Hungarian Szerencsejáték Zrt.
Andy Vajna, government commissioner in charge of the Hungarian film industry, has won concessions of Hungarian casinos over state-owned Szerencsejáték Zrt.
Mihály Varga, Minister of National Economy, announced the results of the tender for casino concessions. Las Vegas Kft., owned by Vajna, has won five casino concessions and Aranybónusz 2000 Kft. owned by Gábor Szima Jr. has won two.
Ministry of National Economy (NGM) claimed that Vajna and Szima were able to win casinos as they have been reliable tax-payers. The NGM has not commented on Szerencsejáték Zrt. not being able to win a single concession. Varga said they “are negotiating with the state-owned company to figure out how they could contribute to the budgetary revenues”.
In line with last year’s regulations, eleven casinos are allowed to be operated around Hungary. Nine concessions have already been distributed. Out of these nine concession, two casinos are presently in operation, bearing permission until December 2014. Vajna currently operates one casino and, after his victory with the tender, he will be eligible to expand his activities to four more casinos.
