Govʼt allocates HUF 6 bln to expose students to performing arts

Hungaryʼs government is allocating HUF 6 billion this year and an annual HUF 5.5 bln from 2020 to ensure Hungarian primary school students get to attend a theater, dance, circus or classical music performance once a year, free of charge, Hungarian news agency MTI reported Tuesday.

The funding may also be used for visits to zoos exhibiting native Hungarian domestic animals (photo: Budapest Zoo).

The funding for the performing arts tickets will be made available to all pupils in grades one to eight "regardless of social situation or place of residence."

Additionally, the funding may be used for visits to farms or zoos that display native Hungarian domesticated animals.

The resolution acknowledges that "Hungaryʼs thousand-year-old culture is a value of fundamental importance to the enculturation, self-expression and national identity of todayʼs citizens and future generations, as well as the cultural preservation of Hungary, therefore its fulfillment is a priority responsibility of the state."
