ULT Magyarország signs 2-year contracts with tobacco growers
ULT (Universal Leaf Tobacco) Magyarország is signing two-year purchase contracts with more than 500 tobacco growers, after three-year contracts signed in 2018 expired, the company's agronomics director told MTI on Friday.
Tibor Fekete noted that a firm decision on the European Union's common agricultural policy (CAP) has still not been taken, thus maintaining support in the transition years will be important for sustainable tobacco production.
Last year, ULT bought 3,031 tonnes of tobacco from 496 growers. For the past four seasons, ULT has shipped that tobacco to its plant in Italy, where it is mixed with tobacco from Bulgaria, Italy, Spain, France, Romania, and Poland to create a "European" blend.
