Romania: Liberalization of energy, natural gas markets
The Romanian Government approved on Wednesday the full liberalization starting July 1, of the energy and natural gas markets.
The population will thus become an eligible consumer and will have the opportunity to opt for the services of one specific supplier, with which they will negotiate the price. Currently, the energy market functions with 83.5% of its capacity and the natural gas market with 75%. The full liberalization of the energy market, according to the directive of the European Union, aims to increase market competition. Two categories of clients -companies and household consumers-, will be able to choose their energy supplier, irrespective of the area in which the latter functions and will be able to negotiate prices with the supplier.
