Budapest mayor issues decree ensuring petitioners audience

Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony issued a decree on Wednesday that ensures citizens who bring petitions backed by at least 1,000 other residents of the capital a meeting with city leaders, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
If a petition is backed by 10,000 or more citizens, it may be brought before a meeting of the municipal council at which the petitioner may present the initiative.
Petitions may be launched and signed by any resident of Budapest over the age of 14.
