Wizz Air to launch Budapest-Istanbul flight in August

Transport

Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air will launch a Budapest-Istanbul flight on August 2, sales director György Ábrán said at a press conference on Thursday. Wizz Air will operate the flight four times a week at the start – on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday – but gradually raise the number of flights to one a day from March 2014. Wizz Air expects 70,000 passengers on the route this year. Wizz Air will soon expand further its fleet of 44 Airbus A320 aircraft. The average age of the aircraft is 3.5 years, making Wizz Air's fleet one of the youngest in the world. Wizz Air flies from 16 bases to 92 destinations in 33 countries. It flies more than 270 routes, but will raise the number to 300 by year-end. The airline employs 1,600 people, but expects headcount to rise to 1,700 this year. Wizz Air is talks with a Russian partner on a Budapest-Moscow flight, but has not yet received an answer, Ábrán said.
