UPC new runner-up on Hungary landline market

UPC became the new runner-up on the Hungarian landline connections market in February, overtaking Invitel, as Magyar Telekom remained the number one service provider, the latest flash report published by the National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) on Friday shows. The number of landline connections edged down to 1,887,000 in February from 1,903,000 in January. The number of voice over cable television connections rose to 620,000 from 611,000 in the previous month, while the number of voice over internet protocol connections rose to 460,000 from 452,000. The number of landlines per hundred people was 29.80 in February. Magyar Telekom had a market share of 58.4% on the market for landline voice connections, UPC had 13.2%, Invitel took 13.0% of the market and Digi had a market share of 9.0%. UPC still had a market share of 12.9% in December, while Invitel's market share was 13%. In January, the two companies had a market share of 13% each.
