Two Lidl stores add e-car charging stations

Two stores of Lidl Hungary, the local subsidiary of the German discount supermarket chain, have been supplied with electric car charging stations in an approximately HUF 19 million green investment, according to a press statement sent to the Budapest Business Journal on Tuesday.

The two stations, at the János utca and Hungária körút stores in Budapest, are available for Lidl customers to use free of charge in the first hour up to 50 kW, Lidl said.

The stations are equipped with three different types of charging plugs, so that the majority of currently available electric cars are suitable for charging, the press statement noted. Each station can charge a maximum of two cars at the same time.

“We are proud that under the notion of environmental consciousness, Lidl Hungary has launched the establishment of electric car charging stations much earlier than the intentions of the Hungarian government,” said Jenő Grósz of Lidl Hungary, making a reference to Hungary’s stated commitment to improving the infrastructure for electric cars in the coming years. “Naturally, we will continue such developments,” he added.

Currently more than 1,000 electric cars roam the Hungarian streets, a number the government aims to increase to 50,000 by 2020.
